We are moved in and enjoying this house. There are a few of things left to do and just settle in but everyone is more relaxed. We’d love to post some photos but we have a slight problem. No, we didn’t lose the camera. In transferring the internet service over here we were upgraded to a ‘higher’ speed system. We have seen the download speed double but our upload is terrible. Can’t get pictures up yet and probably not for another week. It’s been a few tough weeks to get to this point which is why we haven’t been posting anything. A lot of late nights and taking a couple of days off. Saturday was our big move day and Sunday was the first day of real rest. Sleep comes easy for everyone here. Hopefully this Saturday we’ll have a real sleep in

I took a half day off to work on the flooring but that may not have been the best idea as the plumbers were finally putting in sinks and stuff. And then the tools I needed were not there so more running around. Once I did start I began missing Ivan. We worked well together with the tile and both had good ideas with how to install it. This will be a little tougher with more angles and things to work around. I got half of it cut with the big angle of the tub out of the way.

Also the fill for the septic field was spread out and looks great. The slope is much better on the south side of the house. Ester is probably eying where to put the swing set.

New wooden floor

A night where had some time to work on the house, take some pictures, do a little writing, even watch some football. I love laptops. Ester and I have taken it easy since last Friday. Saturday there was a little cleanup/organizing in the house, then Ani’s birthday lunch, and to top it off – 6 hours to ourselves while our kids were babysat by someone who owed us a favor. I love how that all works out. I think we’re done buying lights for now. Good grief – almost no end to that. We also found a good microfibre floor cleaner for the wood floors. Sunday was an actual day of rest and just enjoyed the family. Now back to work. Tomorrow is getting back to the tile, cutting the tile for the master bath and later this week getting that tile set. Have to make use of the next 3 nights because it will be another long weekend with a Ginny Owens concert to do the sound for.

flooring, flooring, and flooring

Ehren is busy working on the laminate flooring tonight so I am putting some new pictures for you to see. A lot has happened since the last post. We finally got our cement garage floor, Ehren finished grouting the tile (and we both washed and washed the tiles), linoleum got installed in the mud room and kids’ bath, and our appliances came today. So it has been very busy and Ehren is getting a little bit worn out. At least we can almost see the end of the tunnel. His last big job will be to do the tile in our master bath and then it’s just waiting for the plumber and the carpenter to do the finishing work. We can’t wait to close on the house and spend a little quality time together, we both really need it.

Upper Cabinets

Upper cabinets were installed Monday night, just in time for Ivan to come back and help. Base cabinets will go in tonight. We had a little layout problem which we turned around to work to our advantage. More on that later but I have to get to work.

Full of color, but need to buy more.

Today was a big painting day after a big pre-painting day, spraying primer and the ceiling paint. Just really tired now. But we’re pretty happy. Want to see it dry overnight and how it looks tomorrow. Today we could still see where the mud was on the walls. On Monday we’re planning a touch up day and then placing the rock board down to get ready for the ceramic tile.

Week Wrap-up

It might be like this for a while because it’s just too much to do it during the week. We have lights at the site so I don’t get home til about 10, shower, and then just have to relax for a bit before going to sleep. Tonight I’m taking a night off from the site and not fighting a cold. We have more cleaning to do before Esse’s parents come on Monday. It’s hard to recall what all has been done but here is what’s going on. The electrical inspection is done, insulation has been installed and we’re all sealed up on the main floor. Sheet rock will start on Monday. I am in the process of dumping 1000 gallons of water in the garage to settle the floor before we pour the cement. Pouring that much water helps the gravel settle so we won’t have sink holes/cracks later in the life of the garage. Help, not guarantee from happening. I’ll say more about everything in the pictures.

It’s been a long week. Not much has happened at the house that is that noticeable. The HVAC and electrical are mostly done. Electrical inspection should be tomorrow. I’ve had a cold/have a cold all week, Friday we left for the cabin to visit with old friends that night and the next morning, so it’s been hard to get what I need to get done. Finally, at 8:30 tonight I was done wiring the house for audio, phone, network and tv. It’s also difficult because there are visitors everyday, checking things out. Tonight, besides my parents, it was my grandpa’s brother and his wife, and then our neighbor Ruth and her daughter-in-law. I love when people stop over but when Ruth stopped by, I let mom show them around while dad and I finished off the great room. Tomorrow should be a more relaxed because we have some rain coming through and I’m taking a day off. Hopefully……..

A driveway

Another busy day. The progress of the driveway was way cool. Not that steep of an incline to the garage and pretty level with the gravel road. Never thought that would happen. Other things done today were that the electrical made big advances in wiring the house, our stairs to the basement is in a finished-rough stage, and the siding got started. Tonight I cleaned up on the main floor, moving scrap wood down to the basement – via the stairs, taking garbage to mom and dad’s, and then working where the septic field location will be with the chisel plow. It was really packed down and needed to be worked on a bit before the field goes in.
